Aftercare

I always finish off enhancements with a gel polish, and the majority of you who have a natural service opt for a gel polish too, so this care sheet focuses on it being the primary coating.

You will absolutely LOVE your nails whilst you are wearing gel and I expect your nails to last up to 14 days as long as you give them good care and attention during that time. This means you should protect your nails by wearing gloves when doing jobs like household cleaning and gardening, hobbies that are rough on your hands or using harsh chemical products. Doing these things without protection can ruin your Shellac service and reduce its longevity.

SOLAR OIL
Please use Solar Oil (which is designed to be used with CND Shellac or similar) at least twice a day (especially at night before going to bed) to replace lost moisture to your skin and nails. You can buy Solar Oil from Nails by Fi. Also beneficial is the use of any hand and body lotion daily. Maintaining this aftercare regularly will substantially prolong the life of your manicure and keep your natural nails and the skin surrounding them healthy, moisturised and flexible.

REMOVAL
Correct removal plays a huge part in how your next manicure will last and is vital in maintaining the heath of your natural nail. Gel should NEVER be filed off or picked. Incorrect removal at home may damage the surface of your nails which defeats the whole point of the gel system. Your technician will be able to remove your product using a professional remover and to give you a mini-manicure so that your nails will look perfectly groomed.

CHIPPING OR LIFTING

If something you have done has caused a chip (that cannot be filed away as discussed above) or lifted an edge of your manicure, please do NOT pick or pull at the area, as this will cause any damage to increase. Please contact me on (07454 444933) so I can assess the nail and decide if a repair is necessary. Please note that repairs may be chargeable.

ON HOLIDAY
If you are on holiday please be careful when using sun tan oils or insect repellent solutions as many of these products contain solvent oils which may cause major damage to the gel colour coat or the adhesion of gel or acrylics.

SWIMMING POOLS
Some of the more delicate colours can fade somewhat if you are in chlorinated water followed by excessive sun (remember that chlorine is a bleach and sun intensifies the bleaching action). Dry your hands and nails and then apply Solar Oil after swimming and before sunbathing to minimize any colour fading

PAINTING OVER
If you wish to temporarily change the colour of your nails whilst wearing gel, you can use nail varnish over the top. (Please note that the 'mirror shine' gel finish may be slightly compromised by using nail varnish remover).
